The problem in the research is the existence of stigma and discrimination from society regarding the status of people with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA), which ultimately has an impact on the social functioning of PLWHA. The research aims to investigate how the social functioning of PLWHA is affected after experiencing stigma and discrimination from society in Bengkulu Province. The data analysis method used in this research is qualitative descriptive. The sampling method employs purposive sampling techniques (purposeful sampling), where informants are deliberately selected by the researcher based on certain considerations. The data collection methods include observation, in-depth interviews, and literature study. The case study for this research is the peer support group (KDS) of the Bengkulu Kipas Foundation. This research was conducted from September to December 2023. The research process involved direct interviews with each respondent (informant source), namely 6 PLWHA and 10 community members Bengkulu Province. The research results indicate that 100% of PLWHA have experienced acts of stigma and discrimination from the community. In comparison, 70% of the community members have committed acts of stigma and discrimination against PLWHA. Stigma and discrimination arise due to a lack of information among the public about HIV/AIDS, leading to the perception of HIV/AIDS as a disgrace and a frightening scourge. Consequently, due to society's insufficient understanding of HIV/AIDS, PLWHA faces social ostracization, resulting in changes in social behavior and an inability to fulfill their social functions or roles properly. This includes challenges in family and societal roles, hindering PLWHA from meeting basic needs and addressing social problems effectively. In conclusion, PLWHA become dysfunctional or experience social dysfunction due to the stigma and discrimination imposed on them by society.
